I cringed. Literally. — 2 years ago
I’m seriously glad my girlfriend and I didn’t wind up seeing this in theaters. While it’s not the worst movie I’ve ever seen, it turned out to be a lot worse than I ever could have imagined it to be for a number of reasons.
First off, I don’t know why, but every single person in this film overacts. Badly. I mean, what the hell? Uma Thurman’s a great actress, and Luke Wilson (on occasion), but this film made them both seem like complete amateurs. I know they’re better than this. I think the only character that seemed fitting was Rainn Wilson’s.
Also, I have to agree with paperstars: (1) the film had a ton of potential to be good; and (2) there were way too many low-brow jokes that just weren’t funny at all. Really, the idea is an interesting one that you just don’t see in superhero movies these days, but Ex-Girlfriend just turns everything into one big, unfunny joke.
If you can, avoid this. If you’re interested, try finding a way to see it without actually paying any money for it, because you’re going to kick yourself otherwise.
