My all consuming summary of April, 2007 — 2 years ago
This month I read 3 books, watched 15 movies, and listened to 14 albums.
Books
Unconsciously, the books I read were all on the theme of childhood. Two were children’s book and the third was inspired by one of those books. They all happened to start with the letter W which is kind of funny to me.
Film
I also noticed a few of themes emerged in the film I watched as well. One was sex, but sex ranging from awkward to pathological. None of the films (Viridiana, Last Tango in Paris, Walkabout, nor Belle de Jour) had anything pleasant to say on the topic of sex.
Another theme was children (i.e., Eraserhead, Lord of the Flies, and Walkabout).
Then there was strangeness, betrayal, darnkness, and depression.
Buster Keaton’s films and the recent Hot Fuzz were the only movies I saw that had any lightness to them at all.
Music
Nothing to really mention this month. Everything was a bit of a disappointment. Even those I was looking forward to hearing (America’s Sweetheart, Immortal, and The Crane Wife) seemed a bit of a let down. I’ve noticed from my summaries that music seems to be the most difficult category to really impress me.
