WORTH CONSUMING!
It seems like this year’s Canada Reads theme may be neglected children.
This is another book set in a strife-ridden India. They mostly serve to make me feel sad and hopeless about human nature. This book isn’t exactly an exception.
It is very well written, compelling, with a very interesting POV from the orphaned ten year old narrator. He sees the world with such a sense of magic, one that’s quietly eroded by the strife he sees once he escapes the orphanage life he knows for the streets of Bombay.
It’s hard to say much about this book. It was sad, yes, but also beautiful, in a way.
