Aardman shines through — 3 years ago
I love CGI. The only problem is the current stream of CGI movies coming from the US is this saccharine-sweet cookie-cutter-moral happy ending tripe (see: almost every CGI movie in the cinemas this and last year).
Thankfully, the Aardman team with its dry wit and offbeat storylines saves the day and makes this movie stand out from the CGI crowd. For the Aardman fans, there are the usual million little references. For everybody else both young and old there are plenty of laughs to be had.
I heard Aardman chose to use CGI in this flick because of all the water scenes which would not work well with their traditional stop-motion animation and the end-result does not disappoint. Maybe not their best work ever but certainly worth watching.
