One of the reasons I loved the original Mission: Impossible TV series was the tremendous amount of thought that went into each episode. Every mission was elaborately planned, down to the tiny details. The twists and turns were wonderfully delivered. There was no need for guns in most cases. The IMF team applied brain over brawn.
The only links between this movie and the original series that I noticed were the theme song, the poof of smoke when the mission message self-destructs after its delivery, and the use of rubber masks for impersonation. The rest was typical Hollywood chase scenes and pyrotechnics. And there wasn’t even any good seduction. Tom Cruise deserves the bad press he got for this one. The people who coordinated all the explosions deserve a bigger paycheck than he did. Missable: Possible.
