Why it's taking me forever to finish consuming this — 3 years ago
I’m been working with this book for about 9 months now. I’ve just finished the first section of alternating bass country blues. The pieces aren’t that difficult to play because they are usually based on standard chord positions but they all have something interesting thrown in - a riff or position that requires special attention - and working on playing these well and fitting them into the overall scheme of the piece takes time. Grossman’s notes on these points of difficulty are very helpful—using a slightly different fingering can sometimes make all the difference in making a position playable. The accompanying CDs are superb with authentic performance recordings of the pieces in the books.
This is certainly one of the best music instruction books that I’ve used. There’s a lot of material in here and the pleasure of mastering it is certainly incomparable.
