I love reading good science fiction. I’m not religious at all. So my conclusion of C S Lewis’ work is that it is relatively poor sci-fi. Probably good in its time but it doesn’t stand up against contemporary sci-fi. The God theme…hmm…rather spoiled things further.
I read from the book jacket of a Chronicles of Narnia compendium that JRR Tolkien met with CS Lewis in a writer’s club known as the Inklings. I am surprised therefore that Tolkien’s brilliance in fantasy fiction didn’t affect Lewis more.
I will read the remaining books in the trilogy but I do not expect much – at least the Chronicles had Narnia! Perhaps this is an admission that I like fantasy over science :)
