I love this album. It’s a full on big band jazz take on a selection of Joni’s old songs. She sings like a grizzly bear; all growly lower tones and no girly upper notes anymore, thanks to years of unrepentant chain smoking. The passage of time is there in the cracks and breaks of her voice. It’s beautiful, bitter and brilliant. Viva La Mitchell!
