This is a common Italian garnishing for food. The quality may be highly variable. I bought some from this gourmet italian stuff, made fresh and I was awesome. Later I bought some in a jar from Trader Joe’s and it tasted liked crushed tomatoes with basil. So it’s definitely worth getting the freshly made stuff… buying brushchetta in a jar is totally not worth it!
