Wishy-washy — 3 years ago
I really enjoy the concept of time-travel, no matter what the vessel is. I enjoy the paradoxes that come from someone knowing the future, or trying to change the past. The more complex the scenerio, the more I tend to enjoy the book or movie.
Although I generally liked this film, I was rather frustrated by the ending. I was expecting a “life goes on,” “some things are unchangable,” kind of ending – but they went the happy, sappy route. I’m not meaning to be cynical, I just happen to be of the persuasion that I would rather see a movie that keeps me thinking well beyond the exit of the theater, than be patted on the head and told that I’m a good girl.
However, if you are the kind of person who only likes movies with happy endings, this one will not disapoint you.

I Was Kind of Confused
I mean, I liked the movie and didn’t like the movie. But when she sent him the letter telling him not to try to meet her because he would get killed, but to wait an additional two years..well, wasn’t that two years in the future from when the movie started, which would mean that the person living in the lake house who would get the note would not be him, but her two years in the past because two years in the past from when she wrote the final note, she had just started living in the lake house.
See what I mean?
I guess they have other rules in alternate universes.

I think you pin-point the exact reason I was wishy-washy
That’s exactly it! I felt like it was a cheezy way to end the movie. If we had followed the standard time-paradox rules, this movie should have ended differently, or started differently.
When she told him that she had to move on, I figured that she had already figured out who it was that she was not able to save at the beginning of the movie. I was almost disgusted when we found out that no, she was just oblivious until the last minute.

Of course, there's that sentimental part of me...
Seeing as how I listed Keanu Reeves as one of the guys I would not kick outta bed in my 43things, there was a part of me that was glad he wasn’t dead at the end.
Sigh. I enjoy being a girl.
