WORTH CONSUMING!
As I was reading this I realized that I did not, in fact, really know anything about the Scopes trial. I had no idea it was a ruse conconcted by the town itself to gather publicity, because the ACLU was looking for a test case. Good lord.
Anyway, the book is quite good—nuanced, descriptive, not too preachy. I wasn’t a huge fan of the idea of making Francie “in love” with John Scopes, but whatever.

I'm glad you agree!
I notice we differ on “Deliverance.”

Yeah, well. That's to be expected.
I guess I already knew how ugly John Voigt was/is, and I was just spooked. You have to admit, it was effective in keeping people out of the backwoods.
And I liked Dueling Banjos.

No, it was Burt Reynolds who scared me
with his ugliness. I kind of like John Voigt, because of Midnight Cowboy (which, of course, you will hate).
Ok, Dueling Banjos was neat.
But then the kid didn’t turn out to be at all important to the plot! What a waste.
