I started off neutral, moved through mildly interested, and quickly progressed to complete disgust. Not because the book is designed to disgust, although it is, but because I was so deeply disappointed by the way a vaguely interesting idea - maybe a short story’s worth - had been blown completely out of proportion, mishandled, and used to support an entire novel. A poor, poor effort, Chuck. I couldn’t stand your narrator and I didn’t even enjoy finding him pathetic. And stop trying to convince me that the world is full of invisible secret messages and conspiracies, ok? I bought it in Fight Club, which I loved, but you’re treading water here.
