because it’s goddamn amazing, and basquiat was a genius. plus, when i saw it as a kid, it totally blew me away. who knew there were worlds like these to explore? who knew??!

i have not read that. from the title alone, however, i’ll have to add it to my perpetually long list of books to get next. thanks for the tip!
is it a good read? i’ve noticed that a few of the books on the new york no wave/proto punk i’ve read have been god-awful. just bad writing and piss poor all the way ‘round….

From the Velvets to the Voidoids is written by a guy who edited “The Penguin
Book of Rock & Roll Writing”,
so it’s pretty well done,
albeit more impressive in the research dept. than out
and out stylish. But you
can’t beat this as a companion piece to “Please
Kill Me”.
