Set in Australia, Wolf Creek is loosely (and I mean loosely) based on Ivan Milat, who was convicted of murdering seven backpackers in Sydney during the 1990s, and suspected of killing and hiding many more in the remote Outback. Similiar in concept to movies such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Wrong Turn, Wolf Creek does not offer anything new to the genre. However, having said that it is better than some of the other movies that are of the same theme, mainly due to the new-ness of the Outback as a location and the chillingly real feel of the movie. The characters are fairly one-dimensional and stereotypical – a trio of 20somethings who party and get drunk decide to go on a roadtrip to visit the Wolf Creek crater and find themselves at the hands of a psycho Crocodile Dundee. A fairly watchable.
