I loved this book. So much so that I lent it to my mother and then forgot I owned it and bought a second copy. I’ll admit it was difficult for me to get past the differences between the story and the original Biblical text, but once I stepped back and realized that it’s a fictional book, it was easy to enjoy. The rich descriptions of women’s lives and the culture that surrounded them were beautiful. It really put flesh on the story that I learned a long time ago in Sunday School. If you’re a conservative Christian with a strict view of the Bible, you may not enjoy this book (my mom didn’t), but if you’re willing to be open-minded, your life will be greatly enriched by the experience.
