This was a fascinating movie. An edge-of-your-seat-what-the-hell-is-going-to-happen-next-and-do-I-really-want-to-see-it kind of movie. A laughing-in-disbelief-but-it’s-damned-funny kind of movie. Christopher Nolan has so deftly captured what it must be like to live in the mind of someone who is incapable of creating and holding onto long-term memories and the kind of tragic and sometimes comic turns that someone’s life is capable of making, especially when they are on the trail of a killer who doesn’t seem reluctant to kill again. I know the fragmentation of this movie bothered some, but it really worked for me because it seemed so very real with where Leonard was and what he had made of his life. What is basically a very simple and straightforward story becomes suspenseful and full of mystery when told in interspersing fast-forward and fast-reverse.
Of course, now I need to watch it about ten more times to see if I understand it.
