A story about this — 3 years ago
Took a while to get going, but i’m starting to get into the story. Eco is very much an acedemic and the book occasionaly feels like it’s just a vehichle for all the random arcane bits of knowledge he has ammased and wants to get out. Fortunately I like random arcane triva so I’m enjoying it, but it still feels a little odd / bugs me every now and then.

it took me ages to finish
but i felt, oh gosh, that was really worth it.
countless hours and dictionary look-ups aside, i found the storyline compelling, and was quite determined to finish it.
i recommend it to anyone who says they like dan brown. none of them actually get around to reading this, though :P

I completely agree
with the Dan Brown comment. This thing is like a textbook compared with Brown’s “See Spot Run” handling of the very idea of ancient conspirators. I know what you mean, Dustin, about the apparent convolutions throughout much of the plotline, but it all turns out at the end like a punch in the eye. Eco is a Master.
