NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Well researched and some interesting ideas, but the writing was horrendous, the pacing repetitive and predictable. I mean, every chapter ended with YET ANOTHER AMAZING REVELATION! The characters were flimsy and obvious projections of the author. I couldn’t finish it. Maybe it’ll make a better movie.

What?

So you consider a man bent on profit and subsequently employing his wife to do all the research for him (to save money? time? what?), as “good research”? Hmmm.

Wasn't judging the author's motivations, just the product

Whoever did the research (author, wife, editor, pet gerbil) is not my point. The book seems to have gone to some lengths to be reasonably accurate in art and apocryphal religious history. And the connections made are somewhat interesting I suppose if you’re into conspiracy theories and the Mason/Knights Templar genre. He (or his wife) seems to have read Holy Blood, Holy Grail, or at least lifted some ideas from it. But that’s where any value, in my opinion, stops.

The writing is truly atrocious. It was impossible for me to suspend enough disbelief to get through it – even as a potboiler. It was as if the author was constantly looking over my shoulder saying, “See how very clever I am!”

If this is the best he has to offer, I would certainly stay away from his other titles.

Agreed

Disagree with you on the research comments, most of the stuff I have seen about his research has undone his (wife’s) work, since it is based in heresay and legend related to the various pieces of art, groups, societies, etc.

Would agree with you on the later! :) Will be reading Angels and Demons and/or whatever else there is.

Cheers, and read on!

PS, Where the heck is Bainbridge Island?

Nice place

My wife and I ended up at eleven winery on Bainbridge Island. Was a nice place! We took the ferry with some friends. Thanks for the tip.

Take care.
