A story about this — 3 years ago

3 novellas, each re-writing a familiar myth, the first the 1,001 nights is viciously bawdy, the second Perseid is full of wit and erudition, the third Bellerophoniad deconstructs itself and the preceeding novella and is basically a hall of mirrors. Mythology is mythologized, remixed, re-everything. Entertaining, self-indulgent (the author inserts himself into the story in a fit of post-modern indirection)... You can’t take it seriously but then you wonder if this was best left unread. You persist to see what lies under the veil and try to enjoy the retold story, the witty asides (a hero trying to follow the pattern – someone who doesn’t feel heroic enough) when you finish you are glad for the first half and the occasional laughs but would you recommend this? American authors are difficult sometimes… Let’s leave it at that.
